Lower Allen Township police were called to assist the US Marshal Fugitive Task Force after Bennie Chisolm, 29, of Harrisburg, barricaded himself in the 2100 block of Cedar Run Drive, shortly before 10 a.m. on Apr. 4, the department said in a release.
The authorities announced themselves when they entered and told Chisholm they had a warrant for his arrest, according to the release.
Chisolm responded by barricading himself and his 3-year-old son in a bedroom and the third floor, the release shows.
At one point he opened up a window and jumped out, "leaving his 3-year old son in the room alone with the window open," police say.
The marshals "could hear the son yelling that his daddy had jumped out the window," as stated in the release.
Chisolm ran into a wooded area down the street, and was caught at the end of Orchard Road— just as a K9 search was about to begin.
He has been charged with a felony for Flight To Avoid Apprehension/Trial/Punishment and a misdemeanor for Endangering the Welfare of Children Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, court records show.
He has been held in the Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $20,000 in bail and his preliminary hearing has been scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Christopher Delozier at 10:30 a.m. on Apr. 21, according to his court docket.
